A Handy Post-Graduation Moving Checklist

While you’re preparing for graduation, moving might seem like just another headache. To help smooth your move, INFINITE has compiled a handy post-grad moving checklist.

Change And Update Your Address

Make a list of every service you use that has your current address on file – your bank, credit card provider, loan servicers, employer, and college – and update your address information on their websites. The U.S. Postal Service also has a convenient online form for updating your address. Make sure to give your friends and family your new address as well.

Switch Your Doctor

Find a new primary care provider before you get sick. Your current PCP may have suggestions or recommendations for providers in your new town, or you can check your insurance company’s website to find a new local provider in-network.

Your voter registration doesn’t update automatically when you change your address. Luckily, it’s easy to register to vote online. If you’re moving to a different state, there may be other rules and regulations about registering to vote, so be sure to do your research beforehand.

Learn Bus Routes Or Map Out Your Commute

Switching up your entire routine can be daunting. Make it a little easier on yourself by researching public transportation routes in your new town and buying a bus or train pass. If you drive, it’s still a good idea to study a map and mark the best routes to get to your job, the grocery store, or the gym.

Pack Your Belongings

This one may seem obvious, but it can really sneak up on you if you put it off. Start small by packing away out-of-season clothing or sending bulky furniture items to self-storage. You can also take the opportunity to clear out your current home of any unnecessary clutter. Don’t forget to locate and file away any personal identification or documents such as your passport – you do not want to spend the night before your move frantically trying to locate your Social Security card.

Once you’re all set for moving after graduation, don’t forget to make one last loop around Chicago with your friends to try out any restaurants or attractions you’ve somehow never visited before. Get some ideas at INFINITE’s blog.
